♥ Paper Plant in Shell DIY

10 juni 2021 by Delinlea Leave a Comment

Hey Lovelies! I was thinking hard what to make for this week’s blog. I had a bunch of ideas, but those were more like long term projects. That wouldn’t happen in just a week. You will find out what it will be in the future. For today I kept it a bit more simplistic, but still fun. A little Paper Plant in a Shell! Look how cute that is. I’m absolutely obsessed with this, perfect to decorate with. And the best thing is, you can make it as big as you want.

Paper Plant in a Shell

For this DIY you’ll need:
♥ Shells of choice.
♥ Green paper. (Make sure it’s not too thin so it can hold its shape).
♥ Air Dry Clay.
♥ Acrylic Paint.
♥ (Nylon) Thread.
♥ Glue.
♥ Scissors.
♥ X-Acto Knife.
♥ Tiny Rocks. (Optional)
♥ (Fake) Moss. (Optional)

Tutorial Paper Plant in Shell

First prep your shell if you wanna be able to hang. Cut about 15cm of the nylon thread, make a loop and make a knot. Glue the knot inside the shell, it’s up to you where, just how you wanna hang it. Let the glue dry well.

Clay

The clay will function as the soil in the shell. Push a bit of clay inside the hole and give it a bit of a rough texture, sand like. And let this dry.

Creating the Plant

You can make any plant you want. I chose to do a fern, so cute! It’s only a bit fiddly to cut out. So, I can imagine if you chose something else. Look at how to plant is formed and go from there. Copy the leaf shape to the paper with a pencil. Cut those out with an x-acto knife or use scissors if the shape is easy to cut. Maybe add a bit of paint/pastel if you feel like it need more depth or when there are patterns on the leaf, like with a Calathea for example.

Next, it’s time to glue the leaves together. Since I chose a fern, those all come together at the bottom. So, that’s where I used glue to connect all the leave. But again, use reference pictures if you chose another plant. It could be that you need some kind of stem. Maybe you need some wire to make it a bit more sturdy. Shape the plant a bit if needed.

Finishing off

Paint the soil in a brown color or another color of choise if you prefer. Glue tiny rock here and there as well if you want. I found that the rocks will give it more of a realistic look. Also you could add some (fake) moss if you like, also glue this on the shell, be a bit messy. Nature doesn’t colors inside the lines perfectly either. When all those little bits are added to the shell and the glue is dry. Then it’s time to glue the plant to the soil.

Done!

And your paper plant is all done, look how adorable this shell turned out! I love it. When this blog is done, I will make a few more, I might try to attempt to make a Monstera one. Let’s see if that will work out. When it does, I’ll update this blog with some pictures. And of course on social media. If you made one or more as well, don’t forget to show me on Twitter or Instagram! I’d love to see what you create!

Happy crafting and I’ll see you next week!

♥ BookNook Part 2

14 mei 2021 by Delinlea 1 Comment

Hey Lovelies! Here is part 2 of my first ever booknook! I finished it, barely on time for this blog this week, in fact, while I am writing this, the glue is still drying xD. I am realizing how much I love to make those kind of things. Just creating things from imagination with all kinds of materials. If you haven’t seen part one, go read it here. This booknook I based it on how Claudia Boon described a part of the world in the book “Helende Bladeren”. I hope I did it justice, but no matter what, I love how it turned out and I hope you do too. Ah, again this won’t be a tutorial, just my journey making one from scratch and I hope to inspire you as well!

BookNook or bookshelf insert based on the book Helende Bladeren

Clay

I first finished the clay base that I started with in part 1 of this booknook. I wish I could have kept one side loose to make it easier to work with, but I didn’t wanna have gaps anywhere. So glueing it together was the only way to go.

I shouldn’t forget to mention that I also made a dragon’s egg out of clay, that’s the whole point of this book.

Ceiling

For the ceiling I used popsicle sticks. I cut those to size and made them a bit more worn out with a knife. It has to be an old cave vibe, not like brand new xD. Later I’ve painted those with thinned acrylic paint and I had some acrylics with sand in it, that came in really handy. Since this cave is supposed to be under ground.

Painting

Here is where the magic will happen most part, painting the whole thing including the egg. I started with a base layer of black. When that dried I used the dry brushing technique to imitate a rock and soil texture. The trick is to use different kinds of colors, like I also used green and brown beside grey for the rocks.

Decorations

For this I used anything I had around. To be honest, I have a lot of craft supplies around or I get creative to make it. So I rarely really have to buy anything lately. I used paper to make all the leaves for the Ivy and Ferns. Some (fake) moss I had left over from previous crafts. Jute rope to create the roots and a lot of glue to secure everything in. I found this a really fun part to do, since everything came together, but also one of the hardest things. I sometimes struggled to get it in that made it look interesting and not like empty spots or something.

Lights

I also added lights, just those led string lights you can buy anywhere. This was one of the things I kept in mind from the beginning. But in the end I wanted also a light behind the egg, to really light that one out.  I had to make a little hole for that, since I didn’t plan that on properly xD.

BookNook is Finished!

I had a lot of fun making this booknook! I love how it turned out, I definitely wanna make some more. Not sure if I will keep all myself, or sell them, but we will see what the future brings.
This post, it’s just to inspire you as well to just create anything you want. I hope you won’t copy this booknook, but just take the idea to create something unique yourself. It’s not as hard as you think. And you can make it as hard as you want! I promise it is fun and your bookshelfs will look even more pretty!

If I inspired you to make a booknook as well, show me on Twitter or Instagram, I would love to see what you create!

Have a wonderful day!

♥ Booknook Part 1

16 april 2021 by Delinlea Leave a Comment

Hey lovelies! I don’t know if you love reading or not at all? I personally love books, reading them, collecting them. I often get inspired by them and that brings me to today’s post. A while ago I got introduced to something called a “booknook”, or bookshelf insert. It’s just a little world inside a nook of your bookshelf. Ever since I saw one, I kept looking at videos of people who would make them. Everyone makes them how they want to, it’s really fun. You could make them inspired by books or movies, or just make something up yourself. So, today I will show you a bit of progress on my first ever booknook that I will make. I’m very excited already! It’s not really a tutorial what I will make here. But more like an explanation of what you could do. Be inspired and get creative yourself. This is gonna be fun! Ah, right, this will be part1, part2 will come next month, didn’t wanna rush.

Base of the booknook

First I started off with the base of the booknook, I used foamboard for it, since that was still lying around from school days. I’d better use it now. But you could also use wood or cardboard. Just what you have around. For the size, it is really up to what your plan is. That’s why I made a sketch first to see how much detail I wanted. Then I measured up a book to figure out the height and the depth.

The sizes I used for this booknook I am working on.

I used tape at first to put it together but then decided I wanted to glue one side, the back and the bottom together to have some sturdiness going on already. The other parts I wanted to keep loose so I could remove them while working on the inside.

the start of a booknook with foam and clay

The Inside

For the inside you could use any material you would like. Think of clay, miniature objects either made yourself or bought, foliage, wood, etc. Use anything you could think of to make the nook you want.

Since I wanna make a booknook based of “Helende Bladeren” by Claudia Boon. I went ahead and started with clay, as you can see in the pictures. Since I used light air dry clay, I had to deal with drying time. And that’s the main reason I’ve split up this blog post. I wanted to let all parts dry properly before continuing to paint etc.

So next month I will release part 2, hopefully I’ve a finished booknook to show to you. But I already know now, that I really wanna make more of them. Different themes though, just wanna have fun! I hope you get inspired by my work as well. If you do, don’t forget to tag me on Twitter or Instagram, I’d love to see what you create!

I hope you have a wonderful day and I’ll see you next week!

♥ Spooky Jar DIY

15 oktober 2020 by Delinlea Leave a Comment

Hey Lovelies! Today I have a cute craft for you to make for Halloween! It’s easy to assemble and make, so you can make a lot or just for a quick last minute deco thing! I made a Spooky Jar for you. Of course you can make it how you want, but this one is to give you a idea of what you could do. Most of the materials that are used can be either found for free in nature or you have them already at your house. I hope you will enjoy this tutorial! Somehow I wanna make a few more, but where to put them all? Haha.

Jar with a ghost inside, DIY

For this DIY you’ll need:
♥ A Clean Jar, check if you can recycle any.
♥ Decoration for in the jar, think of moss, acorns, branches etc.
♥ Glitter (optional).
♥ Few Tissues.
♥ Small Ball. (I used stuffing, but you could also use paper or more tissues).
♥ Sewing Thread and Needle.
♥ Paint and Brushes.
♥ Glue (optional).
♥ Fairy Lights (optional).

An example of materials you could use.

♥ Tutorial Spooky Jar

Make sure your jar is clean and dry. If your lid is a color you don’t like, paint it in a color you like and let this dry well.

At the top of the jar, you could add some paint as well, I used a bit of white mixed with some glue. You could leave the glue out though, but I didn’t want the white paint to be too opaque. Dap the paint on, messily around the top. You could do a bit at the bottom as well, but I didn’t do so. Let this dry as well.

Decoration

Now let’s add the decoration in the jar. You could use glue, but I didn’t find it necessary. Add anything you like, but if you have something to cover the bottom of the jar, like moss, add that first. And then add anything you like. At the end, when I was happy with how it looked, I sprinkled a bit of glitter over it. When you add lights, it will give that little extra.

Ghost

Take your little ball and your tissues. It depends on the size of your jar on how big you wanna make it, so just adjust it to what you work with. Place to pieces of the tissues on top of each other, make sure the middle of it lines up but the points aren’t. place your ball in the middle and wrap the tissues around it. Use a bit of thread to keep it together. With some black paint you can add a little face to your ghost.
With a big needle poke some thread through. This way you can hang it from the lid with some tape.

Now if you want you can add some lights to the jar as well, I like it both, with or without. But since it’s spooky season, I prefer to add lights!

I hope you enjoyed this quick tutorial! And that you will make it, if you do, show me on Twitter or Instagram with #DelinleaDIY.

Have a wonderful day and I’ll see you next week.

Love
Danielle

♥ Fairy House 2

11 juni 2020 by Delinlea Leave a Comment

Hey Lovelies! I didn’t expect to make another Fairy House for you. But I did! I thought of a round house and I kinda wanted to share with you how to make this one. The technique is quite the similar to this one I made before, so you might wanna check that post as well. I will refer to it a few times in this blog. I hope you will enjoy this one too.

Fairy House 2

For this DIY you’ll need:
♥ Popsicle sticks.
♥ Matchsticks.
♥ Glue.
♥ Empty Toilet Paper Roll.
♥ Paint.
♥ Brushes.
♥ Scissors where you’ll be able to cute the popsicle and matchsticks with.
♥ (Masking) Tape. (Optional)
♥ Cutting Mat. (Optional)
♥ Cling Film. (Optional)
♥ Fake Moss. (Optional)
♥ Anything else you wanna decorate with. (Optional)

Tutorial Fairy House

First draw a design and height (Mine is 5cm) you like for the base of the fairy house on to your Toilet Paper Roll. When you are happy, cover the roll with cling film, this is to be able to remove the house from the roll later. If you don’t you most likely will glue the house to the Toilet Paper Roll, and that’s not what you want.

Make the base

Place the sticks one by one on the design you drew on the Toilet Paper Roll. Draw a line on your stick  if it’s too long and trim it down with sharp scissors. Glue them on, one by one, side by side, following the design.

When you went all around let it dry completely. When it did remove it carefully from the Toilet Paper Roll.

Roof

For this house I made a roof structure. I used about 5 matchsticks for this and made them 4cm long. I glued them, spread evenly, on top of the base of the house and let them all meet at the top. This can be a bit tricky to do, so maybe use some tape to keep them in place while the glue dries.

While this dries, make the roof tiles. I’ve explained how to make those in the previous post under the subtitle “roof”. The only difference might be that I made them pointier for this house, so I could create the round roof better.

When the structure for the roof is dry and you made all the tiles, it’s time to make the roof! Glue the pieces on one by one and let it dry first when you think it’s gonna collapse. And like I said in the previous post, don’t try to make it perfect, it’s more fun when it looks a bit messy and aged.

When you are done, let it all dry completely before you continue.

Painting and decorating

Now it’s time for the fun stuff to make it look really cute, it makes such a difference when you paint and decorate the house. I’ve explained how to do this in the other post under “Painting” and “Decorating”.
The only thing I added with this one is paper leaves that I made. And glued them on the way I thought it would look good. They are not too hard to make, just cut out the shape you like, draw on the veins and curl up the ends so they are not so flat.

  • Fairy House 2
Here you can see the difference between before painting and after painting/decorating!

That was it already, you created a Fairy House! It’s such a fun project and I love to put them with my plants! Fairies are allowed to live with my plants haha xD. I wanted to make pics outside, but it was raining, sadly.
UPDATE; I finally could make some pics outside! <3
