♥ Cat Pillow Luna

30 september 2021 by Delinlea Leave a Comment

Hey Lovelies! It’s been a long while since I posted something on my blog. I really needed some time off, and still, I can’t promise that there will be a blog next week or every week. We will see what happens. I try to let go of it more, and just see what I feel like doing/making. For today I wanted to make a pillow for my cat, since she loves to crawl under blankets etc. I hope she will use this pillow as well, where she can be cozy.

I tried to write this tutorial down as good as possible, but it might be slightly confusing since I forgot to take pictures often. If you have any questions, just let me know, I’ll try to help you out!

For this DIY you’ll need:
♥ Pillow. (Can be any size, as long as it’s big enough for your cat, mine is 50x60cm)
♥ Cotton Fabric in a color of choice.
♥ Coral Fleece in a color of choice. (You can also choose to skip the cotton fabric and make it out of fleece only).
♥ Zipper, about 30cm.
♥ Sewing Pins.
♥ Scissors.
♥ Sewing Machine.
♥ Iron. (Optional)

Tutorial Cat Bed Pillow

Measure the pillow you wanna use and maybe add a cm, so the pillow stays nice and fluffy ones you put the cover over it. Mine is 50 by 60 cm.

Now I wanted the “blanket” to be slightly bigger on one side so the cat can go in easily and have some space. And I wanted to flip a small part back, about 10cm, so it looks cute! Like they will be sleeping in a small bed.

Cutting Fabric

Cut a piece as big as your pillow from cotton (Part A) and one out of fleece (Part B), don’t forget to add seam allowance, about 1cm! This will be the pillow cover.

For the blanket, make a template first, from paper. Or draw directly on the cotton fabric if you want to, make sure you do this on the wrong side. Draw the size of your pillow, measure 10cm down one of the short sides, and add 3cm at the 10cm mark to the width. As you can see in the picture one of the shorts sides will be extended a bit as well. But since you might be using a different size pillow, the easiest way to do this is to cut the bottom part with seam allowance already, up to the 10cm mark, fold the fabric on the 10cm line and trace the sides of the bottom. (I did this wrong myself at first and had to cut of that 10cm that you’ll flip back later, and add it with another piece of fabric with the right measurements). When you’ve drawn that right, cut the remaining out as well. The cotton sheet will be Part C. Cut the same from Fleece (Part D).

Diamond was trying to ‘help’ me when I tried to cut the fabric!

Sewing the First Part

Take part C and D, lay these on top of each other neatly with the right sides on the inside. Sew only the top side together.
Flip the fabric, so the right sides are on the outside now, iron the seam if you want to, or make it at least neat.

Zipper

Sewing a zipper to a piece of fabric is not something I seriously know how to do, so if you don’t know how, maybe look up a tutorial. Add one part of the zipper, with sewing pins, to one of the short sides of part A, center it neatly. Sew this on using the sewing machine.

The other side of the zipper is a bit harder, the other 3 layers go this part. Part C and D you’ve sewn together just now, you will add the zipper to the bottom side. But before you do this, you’ve to put part B on top of part D, with the right sides together, line it up neatly. I’ve sewn those 3 layers together first, so I was sure it was all attached. Now center the zipper as well with sewing pins, make sure the cotton fabric (Part C) is facing up just like the other side of the zipper, and sew it on.

Finishing off

On to the last part, the zipper is attached. Put part A on top of part C with the right sides together. The pillow should be inside out right now. The hard part is gonna be the blanket at this point, but just make sure that all the sides are lined up and the 10cm part of the blanket should be flipped back now. Take your time to pin all the sides neatly, so you’ll only have a rectangle shape left.
Open the zipper if it wasn’t yet and start sewing around the all the edges but the zipper part. Take your time to sew it neatly, some parts have many layers, not all sewing machines like that. Just be careful. Trim the corners when you are done sewing, so it corners will look nicer after flipping.

Last is to flip the pillow cover inside out and put the pillow inside! You are done! You made it, I hope your cats will love it a lot. Luna has sit in it for a few seconds and left again, I think it’s not cold enough yet haha. Anyway, if you decided to make one as well, show it to me on Twitter or Instagram, I’d love to see how yours turned out!

I’m sorry for the lack of pictures, I was just in the flow and then I just forget things oops. I hope you don’t mind too much.

Have a wonderful day!

♥ DIY Bleach Shirt

8 juli 2021 by Delinlea Leave a Comment

Hey Lovelies! I love playing around with bleach on clothes. (Yes, I take precautions, don’t worry!). The only thing is I hate the smell of it, so I prefer to do it with all windows open and escape my room after or do it outside. It really depends on the project I’m doing. Have you ever used bleach to alternate clothes?! If you have or not, doesn’t really matter. I’m here to give you a idea what you could do. My brain is already like, I can do this and that and THAT. Yeah, way too many ideas. I really hope I can inspire you as well!

DIY with Bleach on a Shirt, design

For this DIY you’ll need:
♥ Clothing of choice, but make sure it’s of a natural material like cotton.
♥  (Thick) Bleach.
♥ Plastic bottle with tiny nozzle or brush with a small cup.
♥ Spray Bottle. (Optional)
♥  (Pastel) pencil.
♥ Paper.
♥ Scissors.
♥ Plastic Sheets/Trash bags.

Warning! Make sure you are allowed to work with Bleach, if you are under age, ask your parents. It’s aggressive stuff. Take all precautions needed, like a well ventilated area, gloves etc. Read the label well.

Tutorial Bleach Shirt

First off, is to prepare your clothes, I used a t-shirt. If you bought it new, wash it. There’s always something on there that makes it sorta water resistant and that will make it a bit harder to work with. Let it dry.

Make your design

While your clothes are drying, think of your design. I chose to do various leaves. I drew the shapes on paper and cut those out. But of course, feel free to make any design.

When your shirt is dry, start laying out the paper leaves on your shirt. Make any composition you like and trace these on your shirt with a pastel pencil. I chose pastel since that grabs better on a t-shirt and it will wash out later, I am not sure if graphite will wash out. You can free style your design as well, but for the tutorial it’s easier to explain it this way.

Bleaching

When you are happy with the line art on your shirt. It’s time to start the bleaching process. Make sure to take all the precautions, like wearing gloves, open all windows or work outside etc, protect surfaces and probably most important, put plastic in between the layers of your clothes that you are gonna bleach. You don’t want your design leak through to the other side, right?!

When you’ve done that, fill a small bottle with thick bleach, which has a small nozzle. This makes it easier to make details. Also fill a spray bottle with bleach. Make some test on paper or a scrap piece to see how it comes out the bottle and get the feel of it. If you don’t have any bottles I mentioned, a brush will work as well, just will take a bit longer to trace all the lines.

The bottles I used, Left is the small nozzled bottle, right is the spray bottle.

I sprayed the shirt with bleach first, carefully, just to distress the shirt a bit. This part somehow took longer to bleach for me. Then I started tracing the lines I made with the small nozzled bottle. It might take a bit of practice in the beginning. Also try to make the lines as thin as possible with tracing, they most likely will expand a bit while it works in. For me it took just seconds to see it work, especially when you use fresh bought bleach. Sometimes it will get less strong over time.

You kinda wanna work quickly, once the bleach has done its part, there’s no use to keep it on there longer, it will only damage your clothes. So, when you finish tracing all the lines, make sure all lines are bleached the way you want. Just a small note here; when you use a black t-shirt, those won’t bleach white, those will turn out orange-ish.

Washing

When you are happy with how it looks (it will lighten a bit more after washing and drying). Then it’s time to rinse your shirt. Use cold water and rinse it thoroughly. After that, throw it in the washing machine immediately on a full program. Some say to wash it without any soap, but I tested both ways and it doesn’t really matter.

Drying

When the washing machine is done, all you have to do is to wait for it to dry! I know, waiting is annoying, but just be patient, you can soon show of you own one of a kind t-shirt or other clothes you decided to alternate!

I hope you liked this tutorial! I think this is quite fun to do! Just making your own style of clothes! Who doesn’t want that?! I also made some mistakes with this shirt, one of the leaves is not as detailed, that’s where I started, I figured the lines needed to be thinner by then. Oh well, I still love how mine turned out. And if you decide to make one yourself as well, please show me on Twitter of Instagram, I’d love to see what you create!

Have a wonderful day and I’ll see you next week!

♥ Easter Shakers DIY

1 april 2021 by Delinlea Leave a Comment

Hey Lovelies! It’s almost Easter time and I have barely done anything this year. While usually I have plenty of ideas that I wanna make/do. *Sigh not sure why actually. Maybe I’m just too tired still (and in pain, but let’s not talk about that). Anyway, let’s go to today’s tutorial! We are gonna make some Easter shakers, you can put them to decorate of as a little gift or just to play around with. It’s fun and I hope you will join me to make some.

For this DIY you’ll need:
♥ Paper.
♥ Pencil/Marker.
♥ Printer. (optional)
♥ Sheet of clear plastic.
♥ Needle and Thread. (color of choice)
♥ Glitter, Sequins, etc. (to put inside)
♥ Glue.

DIY Easter Shakers

Start with drawing or printing out an egg shape on paper, make it as big as you want. This will be your guide. Trace this with pencil or a marker (test what works for you) on a sheet of clear plastic. Make sure you cut out 2 of the same shape.

Option 1, Easy

Prepare some glitter, sequins, etc, that you can put inside your egg. Set it aside and continue with the clear egg. Take your needle and thread color of choice and start sewing the 2 sheets of the egg together. Sew about 2-5mm from the edge, with a running stitch (a blanket stitch will work too). Try to make your stitches not too far apart from each other, or the glitter or other things will fall out. When you almost reached the end of sewing the 2 pieces together, about 2cm left, open this hole up and put the glitter you prepared inside, you might wanna make a funnel of paper to make this easier. Then continue to sew the opening close. Tie a knot in the yarn and with the left over yarn you can make a loop to be able to hang it.

Option 2, Harder

Trace the egg on green colored paper as well, I used 2 different shades of green but 1 is fine as well. Draw grass in those egg shapes and cut out. You can make as many layers as you like, use a bit of glue in between the layers to make it a bit easier. Now you can choose to glue some of the sequins/glitter to the grass already, or add those later, or do both, glue and add later like I did. Next, put the paper in between the two plastic egg shape sheets. Make sure to hold it in place well, maybe with the help of a clip. Now start sewing like I explained by option 1.

Wrap up

Now your fun egg shape shakers are done! I hope you will like them, I absolutely did and went ahead to make some different shapes as well. I love the clear and shaker effect of it. A bit more playful! If you had fun making some as well, make sure to show me on Twitter or Instagram with #DelinleaDIY, I’d love to see what you made!

Have a wonderful day and I’ll see you next week!

♥ Spooky Jar DIY

15 oktober 2020 by Delinlea Leave a Comment

Hey Lovelies! Today I have a cute craft for you to make for Halloween! It’s easy to assemble and make, so you can make a lot or just for a quick last minute deco thing! I made a Spooky Jar for you. Of course you can make it how you want, but this one is to give you a idea of what you could do. Most of the materials that are used can be either found for free in nature or you have them already at your house. I hope you will enjoy this tutorial! Somehow I wanna make a few more, but where to put them all? Haha.

Jar with a ghost inside, DIY

For this DIY you’ll need:
♥ A Clean Jar, check if you can recycle any.
♥ Decoration for in the jar, think of moss, acorns, branches etc.
♥ Glitter (optional).
♥ Few Tissues.
♥ Small Ball. (I used stuffing, but you could also use paper or more tissues).
♥ Sewing Thread and Needle.
♥ Paint and Brushes.
♥ Glue (optional).
♥ Fairy Lights (optional).

An example of materials you could use.

♥ Tutorial Spooky Jar

Make sure your jar is clean and dry. If your lid is a color you don’t like, paint it in a color you like and let this dry well.

At the top of the jar, you could add some paint as well, I used a bit of white mixed with some glue. You could leave the glue out though, but I didn’t want the white paint to be too opaque. Dap the paint on, messily around the top. You could do a bit at the bottom as well, but I didn’t do so. Let this dry as well.

Decoration

Now let’s add the decoration in the jar. You could use glue, but I didn’t find it necessary. Add anything you like, but if you have something to cover the bottom of the jar, like moss, add that first. And then add anything you like. At the end, when I was happy with how it looked, I sprinkled a bit of glitter over it. When you add lights, it will give that little extra.

Ghost

Take your little ball and your tissues. It depends on the size of your jar on how big you wanna make it, so just adjust it to what you work with. Place to pieces of the tissues on top of each other, make sure the middle of it lines up but the points aren’t. place your ball in the middle and wrap the tissues around it. Use a bit of thread to keep it together. With some black paint you can add a little face to your ghost.
With a big needle poke some thread through. This way you can hang it from the lid with some tape.

Now if you want you can add some lights to the jar as well, I like it both, with or without. But since it’s spooky season, I prefer to add lights!

I hope you enjoyed this quick tutorial! And that you will make it, if you do, show me on Twitter or Instagram with #DelinleaDIY.

Have a wonderful day and I’ll see you next week.

Love
Danielle

♥ Leaf Rug or Blanket DIY

10 september 2020 by Delinlea Leave a Comment

Hey Lovelies! Since colder days are coming, well, weather forecast says else, but let’s ignore that xD. I really need a new rug, that I could easily dump in the washing machine. My cat is kinda old, with her little accidents, I just need to be able to clean it well. My last rug didn’t survive the washing machine, oops, haha. So, I came up with a much more fun one, in the shape of a leaf! I love botanics and would fit my space well. While I was making it, I realized it would be perfect as blanket as well! So, double fun, just choose where you wanna use this Leaf Rug/Blanket for. Let’s see how to create your own.

Leaf Rug or Blanket

For this DIY you’ll need:
♥ Green Fabric of choice, 1 by 2 meter.
♥ Sheet Stuffing/Snowblanket, 1 by 1 meter.
♥ Template of a Leaf.
♥ Sewing Machine. (optional)
♥ Needle and Thread.
♥ Embroidery Floss in Green.
♥ Tailor’s Chalk.
♥ Sewing Pins.
♥ Fabric Scissors.
♥ Fabric Glue. (Optional)

♥ DIY Leaf Rug or Blanket

Make a template of a leaf, you can easily find shapes online or draw one yourself. If you are confident enough you can also draw directly on the fabric. Since I am a perfectionist, I used newspaper to draw my leaf on and cut it out. Make sure you stay within 1 by 1 meter.

Fold your fabric in half, so you have a 1 by 1 meter sheet. On this, position your template and trace around it with the tailor’s chalk. Or, if you chose to draw it freehand, use the chalk as well.

Now before you cut it out. Keep in mind you need seam allowance. I just drew a line 1cm from the edge of the leaf on the inside, or you can add it around it. Just keep in mind that if you draw it within the shape, it will turn out a bit smaller. When you did that, cut it out, both layers at the same time!

In the end I changed the shape of the leaf, as you can see the pics side by side with and without the newspaper.

Sewing

Now it’s time for sewing! You could do this by hand, but that will probably take a while! I used my sewing machine, just a straight stitch will do. Start somewhere on one of the sides, since you need to leave a gap, about 20cm, to turn it inside out. To keep the layers together before sewing, use sewing pins along the edge.

Stuffing.

I used an old snow blanket for the stuffing, it was perfect! Cut it to size, use your template. It doesn’t have to be perfectly shaped, just make sure that it will fit inside the seams.

Now for the tricky part, the stuffing has to end up on the inside. You can do this 2 ways. Just flip the fabric and try to get the stuffing nicely inside, which is a challenge but possible.

Or the second way is, before you flip it, use a bit of fabric glue around the edge of the stuffing and glue it to the fabric. Just a warning here, test you glue on a scrap piece of fabric first. Some will leave really bad stains and that’s not pretty! Make sure to let the glue dry well and then flip the whole thing.

Stuffing glued on top of the still inside out piece.

Closing the Gap.

With a neeldle and thread, sew the gap closed. The best way is to use and invisible stitch. If you don’t know how to do this, watch a video on youtube, it’s not as hard as you might think. Make sure you fold in the sewing allowance neatly to the inside so, in the end, it won’t be visible when you are done.

Leaf Veins

It’s time to give our rug or blanket some more detail! Take out you chalk again and draw out the Leaf Veins is any shape or form you like. If you are happy with how it looks, take your sewing pins and pin those down.

I did use embroidery floss, split in 3 strands. And stitched those veins by hand, it will take a while, but this way they were thinker as I could get with sewing it on my sewing machine. You, of course could choose to use your sewing machine to finish it quickly. But I think it was worth it to do it by hand.

♥ Finished!

Your rug or blanket is finished! Isn’t it fun to see? I hope you enjoyed this tutorial and made a beautiful blanket or rug. If you did, don’t forget to show me on Twitter or Instagram with the #DelinleaDIY
